24th September – Rest Day

Since I’d had so much excitement at the dam yesterday, I let myself sleep in.  It was decadent – I woke up and went back to sleep three times, before finally climbing out from under the bed covers at 11:30.

I checked over my car the way Alex showed me: coolant levels, high; air filter, removed and cleaned; drive belt, still in place and in good condition.  Then I went to fill up with petrol (I still more than a quarter of the tank left, but why not?) and stock up on my favourite breakfast food – apples!

I also unearthed an old Pokemon game from the entertainment box I’d taken with me and went to trade it in.  The guy at the counter of EB was so happy!  Apparently he’d been after that title for a while, but because it’s fairly old no one had traded it in.  He kept asking ‘are you sure?’, then following it up with ‘you’re a wonderful person’.

So, I made his day, even though the game didn’t trade in for much – just $20.  I took it in store credit to buy a new game, and he was so grateful to me for handing over Pokemon HeartGold that he did a price match for me with his phone.  Like most stores, EB will match their competitor’s prices, but it’s usually up to the customer to track down the cheapest price and provide some proof.  Curtis (that’s his name) scanned the barcode with his phone and checked to see if anyone sold it cheaper, and when someone did, he was downright ecstatic to knock another $18 off the price for me.

Then it was back to Turtle Shell and another baked potato for dinner.  Not because I really wanted some comfort food, but because my sour cream will hit its expiry date soon, and I had to use the rest of it up.
