7th September – Lawdogs Australia

After yesterday, this was a relatively quiet day, but I did some driving and spent some money. In the morning I went to the Washpool Farm Soaperie.

They make soap from scratch on-site, so it was interesting to look at all their wares. They also hold soap-making workshops, which could be interesting. I ended up buying a little container of liquid soap – scented with lemongrass, lime and lemon myrtle. It smells very refreshing. I got a complimentary bar of ylang-ylang, lemon and lime soap along with it, so that was nice.

I dropped in on the Ugg Boot Lady, just because I’ve always driven past her shop and never actually entered. Well, now I have, and looked at a lot of different wool products.

The highlight of the day was the Lawdogs Australia show. It’s a private kennel that trains dogs for use in police and security work, and they have public shows on Wednesday and Saturday. They asked for no photos, so you’ll just have to trust me when I say it was amazing. They demonstrated aggression training – the dog biting on the covered arm that we’ve all seen in videos about police dogs, but also when the dog is just ordered to bark and look scary without actually attacking.

They also demonstrated agility training, and even drug detection training. They had an audience members hide a small bundle of hash, and the dog found it.

The people at the kennel also run do rescue and rehabilitation for dogs, so I bought a mug from them to support them.

I ate at the Big Apple – a very unhealthy afternoon tea of chocolate raspberry mudcake and Stanthorpe lemonade. Then it was on to the Kent Saddlery, where I looked at some beautiful leather goods and just enjoyed the nice smell that seems to permeate leather-working places. I also ended up buying a plaited leather key chain, so I finally have something to attach to the second set of caravan keys!
