Tamborine

This was just a quick day-trip up to Mt Tamborine, but we all had fun!

We went for a walk in the forest, and it was very wet – I’ve never felt so much moisture in the air.  The dirt path had turned into mud, so wet there were still puddles here and there.  Mostly on the stairs, which made for an interesting trip.  I was quite glad I wore joggers instead of, say, sandals of thongs, as I saw some people wearing.  I still got mud up the side of my leg when I stepped on a palm frond lying in a puddle and it flicked up at me, but hey, mud packs are supposed to be good for your skin, right?  Admittedly, I’ve never been clear on why that is, but shhhh, I’m justifying here.

Still, it was lovely to walk through a nice, cool rainforest, and there was a lot of birdsong going on:

You can hear people talking because there was a surprising number of people on the path.  But I suppose it was school holidays, so lots of parents seemed to be taking their kids on the walking paths.

There were also some very cool-looking fungi growing on the trees:

We spotted a brush turkey off the path, or rather two of them, just picking through a mound:

The rain the place had obviously been receiving had also swelled the river:

And I’d never seen the falls so dramatic:

I even took a video, so you can all understand just how loud it was:

When we turned around to go back, I noticed someone had carved a face into a nearby tree, taking advantage of a little knot for the nose:

We also saw a kookaburra on the way back, just perched on a branch quite close to us, being perfectly docile:

Kinda weird to think these guys are exclusively carnivorous.

After our walk, we went up to the cheese factory and got ourselves some delicious Tamborine cheese (mainly their truffle cheddar – that one is delicious!).  We went through Canungra on our way back for some hot chips, and spotted this:

The gumboot dog is outside a shoe shop, and I think it’s a very good advertisement – ‘our shoes are not just shoes, they can be art!’
