24th October – Horses (and car trouble)

Again, Aunty Sandy and I drove out to the farm to work with the horses.

Martin was concerned about a possible oil leak from my car, but a swift check didn’t reveal anything dripping.  So, we left it parked in the avenue and headed out to the farm in Aunty Sandy’s truck.  Remember that, it’ll come up later.

We did some groundwork with the horses – me working with Flash and Aunty Sandy working with Missy and Nipper.  The farrier turned up around lunchtime, and he started on Nipper while Aunty Sandy and I ate.

At that point, we got a call from Martin.  He’d gone home for lunch and looked under my car, and found it stained with what he thought was oil.  We raced back home to take it into the mechanics, and we found out it was actually diesel – a copper washer was missing from the fuel return line, so it had been steadily leaking diesel.  We left it with them and dashed back to the farm to ride the horses for a little while before it got dark

I got Nipper to canter, which was a real achievement.  We weren’t out for very long before we came back, though – it had been a long day.  The horses were much better with new shoes and trimmed hooves – they weren’t tripping over themselves anymore.
